With days dedicated to various social causes, with special days dedicated to men, women, fathers, mothers, people might ask “Why do we need Women’s Entrepreneurship Day”? and “Why should we support it?”
My answer is why not?
Women in the world account for 85% of consumer purchases. Women in the world do 66% of the world’s work, both at home and outside, but sadly, they earn only 10% of the world’s income. Why? Don’t you think women all across the world need to grow individually, become independent and get out of poverty?
In terms of entrepreneurial abilities, women are not behind their male counterparts. They have skill, dreams, desire and passion. All they need is support and encouragement…
- It’s necessary to celebrate women in business
- It’s necessary to empower and support them in business
- It’s necessary is to alleviate poverty
And thus we have November 19th officially proclaimed as WOMEN’S ENTREPRENEURSHIP DAY!
About WED origin
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO), along with an international campaign “#ChooseWOMEN”, was launched in 2013 by New York based social entrepreneur and humanitarian Wendy Diamond. The basic objective of the launch was to empower and support women in business worldwide and since its inception it has worked towards empowering women and girls, women leaders and entrepreneurs in starting their own ventures, contributing to the economy and growing their communities worldwide. The idea is to help women realize their full potential and change the world.
