LinkedIn and World Economic Forum’s Desirable Skills in 2019 and Ahead

According to the latest study by McKinsey, there are chances of more than 30 percent of the work hours to be automated by 2030.  Machines are replacing human jobs in today’s time. According to the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs” study, about 5 million jobs will no longer exist by 2020 with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. But the good news is that, because of the scenario, more new jobs will be created where unique human soft skills will be the essential requirements.

According to a study by the networking site LinkedIn, employers are looking for candidates in both hard and soft skills from 2019. This was as per the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report. The report clearly states that skills like as initiative, originality, and critical thinking are essential requirements when machines and automation are replacing human works.

2019 is the year for strengthening your soft skill. If you are new and want a prospective career this year, invest in strengthening your soft skill. The usage of advanced technology is increasing at an increasing pace and this has made soft skills increasingly important. The reason being, advanced technologies cannot take up soft skills.

So what essential skills should you possess in 2019 and years ahead?

The desired skills as per LinkedIn’s Research are as follows:

Mixed Skills

The basic requirement is a combination of both hard and soft skills. There is no doubt that AIs and Robotics are replacing human works but these cannot replace human employees altogether. Employers are demanding a greater mix of skills. The advanced technologies create new high-quality jobs, and hence demand for hard skills is only likely to increase. The hard skills in demand are more related to digital technology, coding and programming.

The most demanded soft skill attribute is creativity. There are other important soft skills too that should be an essential part of the professional life of the candidates. These attributes are likely to evolve over time.

Re-skilling

The World Economic Forum report also stated that there’s also a “growing skills instability” in which advanced technology is changing the roles of many of today’s jobs and different competencies/skills are required. It states that almost all employees at the senior or management level should go for significant re- and up-skilling in the coming years.

Future Predictions

A considered and strategic approach is required to cope with the changes that are taking place in the current scenario. Presently and in the near future, some workers will be displaced but at the same time, new opportunities will be created for others. It’s not the employees but also the employers who should be able to frame win-win solutions for workers and for their company’s goals and objectives.
